A northerly republic with a proud, self-sufficient citizenry.

The rugged northeast of the continent is occupied by the sprawling country of Bravellir. Cousins to the native people of Listenesse, they abhor the rule of kings and queens, instead governing themselves as a republic.

For the most part the Bravellings live as herders, foresters, and miners, and they have a reputation for being parochial - but on each summer solstice the central city of Vingolf hosts the ting, a gathering of representatives from every district that makes and arbitrates the laws of the land and elects a titular leader, the lagman. This unusual arrangement has attracted the attention of many foreigners, especially Arginet’s Reformists.

Bravellir has no great urban centres like those of Na Rathanna or Parmenia, and lacks the splendid courts of Listenesse. The only cities of any size apart from Vingolf are Brimir and Fensalir, both of which are in the south of the country, although smaller market towns are common. Its military situation has also been fairly quiet since a border conflict with Listenesse more than a century ago.

Although it is not a rich nation, Bravellir exports timber and metals in substantial quantities, and Arginese characters may have visited as traders. It is of special interest for the Reformists - as it is an example of a successful (or at least long-lasting) republic, many see it as an inspiration for Arginese society.

Bravelling names and terms are Germanic, especially from the Scandinavian languages.
