Player characters (PCs) in the Reform Coalition are people working to transform society - whether peacefully or through violence.
When you are creating a Reformist character or group, you should think about the following questions:
- Why have you chosen to become a Reformist?
- What ideology do you follow?
- How do you intend to change society?
- Whom do you lead, or follow?
- Who are your allies and enemies?
- What are you prepared - or not prepared - to do for your cause?
Activist
The classic Reformist, dedicated to bringing about change in society through propaganda or direct action. They work throughout the nation in a wide range of capacities; sometimes they are lone individuals fighting injustice as they see fit, but often they form trained and organised groups capable of taking on their opponents by force if necessary.
In a sense every Reformist is an activist, but this category refers mainly to the ‘ordinary’ members of the Coalition and to the leaders of the various cells.
Guerrilla
A Reformist specialising in violence and sabotage. Many are trained fighters, but the Coalition is nothing if not resourceful, and channellers and witches sometimes use their supernatural talents and allies to bring the fight to their enemies.
It is very rare indeed for anyone to openly operate as a guerrilla - practically by definition they are criminals living outside the law.
Benefactor
A supporter of a Reformist cell or of the Coalition as a whole. These people take the vital role of supplying resources, money, and information to their comrades. Not all make their affiliations public since it’s sometimes better to appear neutral in the public eye. A few even masquerade as members of other factions, though they face severe consequences if their activities are found out.
Despite this ‘support’ role, there is nothing to stop benefactors from joining the more militant activities of the Coalition, and some make names for themselves as daring investigators and treasure hunters.
Cell
The best way to create a group of Reformist characters is to establish an activist organisation or cell. You can choose to be completely independent, or to have links or allegiances to NPC revolutionaries and groups.
Reformist organisations might be named descriptively (e.g. The League for Direct Democracy) or symbolically (e.g. The Black Flags). A few cells have more than one name - this could be because one is secret, or because they use different names as fronts for different activities.
Cells vary enormously in their ideology, internal organisation, and mode of operation, and often use unique insignia to identify each other. You can use these to give your cell a distinctive feel and goals in play.
